Drama, Music, Water Sports, Tennis: 7 Fun Camps for the Kids in Waterford This Summer

If you're looking to keep the kids entertained for a week or two over the school holidays, there are lots of summer camp options around the city and county. From acting to stand up paddleboarding, here are seven fun camps to keep them occupied.

Camp Waterford, Newtown School

Camp Waterford

Camp Waterford was founded by Chris and Rachel Guest who are both qualified PE teachers.

Their formula is simple. Chris and Rachel combine an experienced coaching team with energy and positivity alongside great facilities, to create an amazing programme adapted for success over 20 years.

The camp offers multiple activities with a flexible and fun timetable, including sport, crafts, drama, free play and some built in down time for storytelling.

The camp runs on July 17 to 21 and July 24 to 28 with age groups broken up as follows:

Cub Camp: Ages 4 to 6 from 10.15 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Camp Waterford: Ages 7-14 from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Sports Academy: Ages 13-17 from 10.30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Starcamp Waterford

Starcamp are running weekly camps from July 3rd to August 19th.

Kids at Starcamp will enjoy music, dancing and acting as well as art and drawing. There’s a talent show, mini mindfulness and lots more activities on offer. The camp is open to boys and girls aged 4 to 12. (They will be sub divided by age and the program will vary to suit). 

Camp times are 9.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. for 5 days. Waterford’s Starcamp is held in St. John of God school on Passage Road. See here for more information.

Dunmore East Adventure Centre

The Adventure Centre has camps for different age groups starting at age 5 up to 17 years old. The camps are weekly, running from now until the end of August. Kids will enjoy kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, archery, windsurfing, climbing, caving, field games, orienteering and wibit wipeout. For the older kids (7 to 17 years) the camp runs from 9.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The groups are broken up into different age groups and there’s an option to book lunch for during the week too. The younger kids camp (5 to 6 year olds) runs from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., Monday to Friday. See here for more.   

Kingfisher Sports Camps

Kingfisher runs Sports Camps with a wide range of activities for boys and girls aged between 5 and 12 years. Activities include football, basketball, dodgeball, indoor games and arts and crafts. The camps start at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. See here for more details.

St. Annes Tennis Club

St. Annes Tennis Club in Waterford are holding a fun-filled social tennis camp from July 3rd to 7th for members and non-members. You can opt for just the morning camp (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) or do the full day (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.). See here for more.

Let’s Go! Summer Camp, Tramore

The Let’s Go! camp runs for five days from July 31 in Ardscoil Na Mara from 9.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.

Each Let’s Go! Multi Activity Summer Camp offers two programmes of activities—one for the 5 to 6 year olds (children must be attending primary school) and the second for children aged 7 to 12 years. These programmes have been designed by our expert team of physical education teachers with your children in mind at all times.

Kids activities include rounders, zorb ball roll and archery. During the week, each child will have the opportunity to experience the camp’s new Virtual Reality (VR) activity. Children will be given a VR headset and will be emersed in a virtual world, where they will interact and compete with one another. See here for more: https://www.letsgo.ie.

Waterford Academy of Music and Art Summer Camp

There are two Summer Camps, with the first starting on Monday, July 3rd until Friday, July 7th from10.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The second camp will be held on August 14th to 18th.

The two variety camps are on in The Arts Complex, home of WAMA and TheatreBox. These are a great way for existing students and new future students to dip their toe into many of their courses. There will be drama, dance, singing and songwriting, music and art.

Fun is the focus, and at the end of the camp there will be an Open Mic concert in their Live Room Theatre, where everyone gets an opportunity to be on stage. 

Students are separated into age groups and the camp is suitable for ages 5 to 15 years. Instruments and art supplies will be provided. See here for more information.
