Waterford to host its first Pride March in more than a decade!

There’s something for everyone with music, film, seminars, and cabaret, and all activities before 9 p.m. are absolutely free! The return of a Community Pride March to Waterford City is a highlight this year.

On the return of Pride to the streets of Waterford, Pride of the Déise’s Secretary Sasha Terfous said “For years, many of us had to venture to a lot of the bigger cities since there wasn’t something on here, now we have a full Pride weekend here in Waterford and that’s fantastic. Having Pride on our own doorstep is incredibly positive”.

“Pride is a space to celebrate the vibrancy and diversity of the local community and reflect on the progress we have made together, while also responding to some of the hate and discrimination faced recently with visibility and inclusion”

Pride of the Déise Chair Cam Lyttle.

In 2021, a series of incidents occurred in Waterford, including the removal and burning of pride flags as well as the promotion of’straight pride’ in the city. “I think locally people were shocked” said Cam “It’s not representative of the City, and Pride gives us an opportunity to show that”

From Friday, June 3rd through Monday, June 6th, the Pride of the Déise celebration will take place over four days during the June Bank Holiday weekend. More information can be found at prideofthedeise.ie.
