The Old Bank Reviews

  • The receptionist walked us to about 12 feet from a choice of tables, waved her arm, didn't appear to say anything & we assumed this meant we could sit anywhere. It was a noticeable contrast when, minutes later, she walked a couple directly to their table, laughted with & chatted to them for 5 minutes. There was loud boom boom nightclub type music dominating the dining room. We asked if perhaps the volume might be lowered or indeed a genre more age appropriate might be available. Most people seemed to be 40-60. It was turned down. My friend had ceaser salad starter. He said it was ok. I had ham hock terrine. I found it bland and uninteresting. His main was chicken supreme. It certainly didn't look supreme in any sense. My main was seafood pasta. A child's portion of pasta with a tomato based sauce, 8 mussels, 3 prawns and maybe 10 clams . It was very ordinary & not very filling. We has 2 bland deserts. The positive was the young man, a leaving cert student who served us with a smile. He was very helpful. The experience cost €106. We gave a tip of €10 hoping it would go to the young man who did his solitary best to make it a pleasant evening. We left the restaurant, dissatisfied with the overall experience & certainly not full. It was an expensive occasion. It wasnt as if it was fine dining with small portions. It was modest food with small portions. We wondered if we might go to the chipper but instead went to abbeyside for a 99. This I copied from the old bank website... "Each visit promises an experience of understated elegance combined with comfortable styling, ensuring a welcoming environment for families, couples, and friends alike. Join us at The Bistro for a taste of local excellence, where every meal is a moment to cherish." On this occasion, I don't think you lived up to your lofty expectations. It wasn't, for us, a moment to cherish. Phil Brennan

  • Had dinner here last night and it was lovely. A little pricey for what it was but lovely none the less. Better value with their lunch menu so I'll definitely go back for lunch. I like going there as it's got a nice relaxed atmosphere with good service and it's very clean with great quality offerings. Their whiskey sour is the best I've tried anywhere and the fact they have reduced their cocktail prices is a certainty that we'll continue to return 😉

  • My aunt raved about how much she loves this spot, so I called in for a cocktail. The building is beautiful both inside and out. I loved the elegant art deco feel to it. There was a nicely curated cocktail menu, as well as whiskey, wine, and beer. I had the No. 5 & elderflower, which was fizzy and refreshing. I hope to visit again to dine, as I am sure it will not disappoint.

  • It took them about 12 months to get it right after opening but now after several visits it's great to see consistency in quality food and service to match. The menu seems to lack variety at first but it actually has plenty of choice and some firm favourites which fo not disappoint. Currently my first choice in Dungarvan. We've had large family gatherings and small group meals. Never anything major to complain about. The great outweighs any negative points.

  • Visually, a superb example of a traditional cocktail bar with a fine array of hard liquor, liquors, wines and champagne on show. The bar is laid out with seating in cosy little alcoves, an area in front of the bar and a back room with a view of the harbour, boats, sea etc. The selection of cocktail is extensive with more, not on the menu, available to be made to order. The restaurant has a good selection of dishes at reasonable prices and again is tastefully decorated. Haven't seen this place before because I don't live in the area but it is a very appealing setup for me to want to visit. Only 4 Stars because I couldn't eat or drink here on the day but I am looking forward to the day when I can come back and do both.
