Halloween in Waterford: Your Guide to All Things Spooky This October
Halloween season has arrived in Ireland’s oldest city, and there’s something brilliant happening for everyone this year.
For the Little Ones
If you’re looking for family-friendly fun, the Spooky Tunnel experience is back at Ballyvoyle Tunnel on the Waterford Greenway from October 24th to November 2nd. Best part? It’s completely free. Kids love walking through the tunnel’s eerie atmosphere, and it’s worth checking out with the family.
Over at Mount Congreve Gardens, the Dragons in the Garden Interactive Trail is running from October 24th to 27th. Twelve animatronic dragons along a 1km route, with smoke and lights after dark. It’s part of a Halloween family break package if you fancy making a proper weekend of it.
The Irish Wake Museum is offering Halloween tours from October 27th to 30th. These tours explore old Irish traditions around Samhain, death customs, and superstitions. Recommended for ages 8 and up, and they’re encouraging folks to dress up, keeping that age-old Irish Halloween tradition alive.
For Those Who Like It Dark
If you prefer your Halloween with a side of genuine chills, there are a few options worth your time.
Waterford After Dark: Crime, Grime & Graveyards runs from October 27th to 30th at 7pm each evening. This 90-minute walking tour digs into the city’s darker history, covering tales of vampires, ghosts, and murders around the Viking Triangle and beyond. It’s strictly 16+ and starts at the Medieval Museum.
Mount Congreve is also hosting Poison & Petals on October 31st at dusk. This adults-only guided walk explores which plants in the garden are best admired from a distance, mixed with folklore and botanical curiosities. It’s got that perfect Halloween twist for plant lovers.
Social Events
The Waterford Expats Halloween Party is happening on Saturday, October 25th at The Three Shippes. Music, costumes, and good vibes for anyone looking to meet people and celebrate properly.
